Battery Dance Festival

Battery Dance Festival

New York Theatre Ballet joins the Battery Dance Festival, New York City’s longest-running free public dance festival. Each year, the Festival draws a combined audience of over 12,000 in-person and over 35,000 virtual viewers. Please visit Battery Dance for more information about the program and festival.

NYTB will perform Rondo, Jerome Robbins’ pas de deux for two women choreographed in 1980 for New York City Ballet to music by Mozart. Original cast member, Kyra Nichols, staged this revival for NYTB. “All of these draw your attention to Robbins’s ability to shape a seemingly artless dance phrase and to build a work fluently from often short phrases. They also show not only his fondness for community onstage but also the understated subtlety with which he was developing same-sex partnering. As with most Theater Ballet programs, we’re the wiser for this fare.” (The New York Times). Also on the program is Size of the Sky, choreographed by Nicolo Fonte to music by Kelly Moran, which was commissioned by NYTB for its 2021 spring season of LIFT Lab Live.
